Finansiering, ja.... Har vel lovet å komme med litt mer info om kostnader og budsjetter for turen, og skal prøve å følge opp dette. Må innrømme at vi foreløpig ikke har satt opp et veldig detaljert budsjett, men noen overslag har vi selvfølgelig gjort.

Et par-tre av våre venner/vennepar har i 2009 pusset opp badene sine. Det rimeligste av disse, et 4 m2 stort bad i en leilighet Oslo, kom på ca 175 000 kr. Vi har satt av mindre enn dette til å dekke alle turutgifter for 2 personer det første året. I tillegg har vi litt ekstra om bilen skulle slå seg helt vrang, eller om vi bare MÅ forlege turen over et kontinent til..... Kjører vi 40 000 km det første året, kalkulerer jeg med ca 50-55 000 kr i fuel, olje, og normalt vedlikehold/service. ...om jeg ikke kjører skikkelig av veien da...

Og finansieringen er oppsparte midler fra de siste årene med jobb. Må vel også nevne i denne sammenheng at vi ikke eier bolig, og vi har heller ingen barn. Med andre ord kan vi bruke alle pengene på oss selv! Vi har heller ikke jobbet med sponsorer for denne turen, da vi rett og slett ønsker å være "våre egne sjefer", og at dette skal være "vår" tur. Ønsker vi å fortsette turen utover et år eller to, må dette punktet selvølgelig revurderes, da reisekassen har sine begrensninger.. ..om noen er interessert da, selvsagt. En inntekt av noe slag må selvfølgelig på plass etter hvert. Forslag noen???

...og enå har jeg ikke begynt å ramse opp kostnadene for byggng av turbil.... Vet nesten ikke om jeg tør begynne Skal se om jeg klarer å legge ut noen overslag på dette også.

En slik tur er selvfølgelig ikke gratis, men vi ser på dette som en investering i opplevelse og eventyr! ...så får hytta på fjellet vente noen år til...

Må bare få ut ett lite "YESS", da flyet til Statene går i morgen tidlig... Endelig skal ting begynne å skje. Bilen er ventet til Jacksonville på fredag, så jeg regner med å få den gjennom tollen i løpet av et par-tre dager uken etter.

Kursen settes umiddelbart vestover mot Colorado og Utah. Noen forlsag til severdigheter og spennende ruter..???

Hei folkens!

Hadde virkelig håpet å kunne poste det første innlegget fra Tur denne gangen, men dessverre sitter jeg fremdeles på et hotellrom i Jacksonville og venter på U.S. Customs (avdeling Agriculture). Patrolen ble losset på søndag, og den har fremdeles status “on hold” hos Agriculture. Håper at alt går i orden i løpet av uken, da tollvesenet holder stengt i helgen. Begynner å bli kostbart å bare henge rundt på hotell og med leiebil stående på parkeringsplassen...

Men på den annen side må jeg jo si at Florida ikke er det værste stedet å henge rundt på! Her er det en 24-25 varmegrader, “norsk-sommer” badetemperatur i sjøen, kilometerlange hvite strender, masse pen natur på stranda gunnet Spring Break på High School og College, og en splitter ny Dodge Charger SXT 3,5l V6 High Output (250 hk) koster 40,- kroner mer i leie pr. dag enn de minste og billigste Chevrolet Aveo. Og skulle sjøen bli for kald er det selvfølgelig oppvarmet basseng på hotellet. Burde vel egentlig ikke klage...

Ellers er det fasinerende å se hvordan amrikanerne har lagt opp all infrastruktur med bilen som utgangspunkt. “Sentrum” av et sted er stort sett en 6-felts vei (3/3) med spredte butikker og noen kontorer langs denne. Stort sett finnes det ingen fortau, og der ytterste kjørefeltet slutter begynner plen, hekk, gjerde eller parkeringsplass. Å gå så mye som en meter, er i mange tilfeller risikosport, og det føles egentlig som om man rusler rundt i noens hage når man prøver å bevege seg til fots (som sikkert også er tilfelle). Leiebil er rett og slett et must.

De første dagene i Jacksonville bodde jeg på et billig hotell/motell i nærheten av flyplassen, og brukte dagene til å kjøre litt rundt og se meg om. Fant en fin campingplass på stranda litt lengre nord der jeg tenkte jeg skulle innvie takteltet bare jeg får ut bilen. Var også en tur sørover til St. Augustine, som er den eldste (og fortsatt bebodde) byen i USA grunnlagt av europere (1565). Og i denne byen har de faktisk et sentrum, med små og trange gater og butikker uten gigantiske parkeringsplasser.

De siste dagene har jeg holdt til på et hotell på Jacksonville Beach. Hyggelig sted å henge rundt (legger ved noen bilder), men som nevnt begynner jeg å kjenne at
det kribler i gass-foten. Krysser fingre for at ting skjer plutselig, og da kan det endelig bli litt mer bilder fra Tur!

Ser ut til du koser deg godt der nede, vekker mange gode gamle minner fra den tiden jeg var der nede å rotet i feriene mine håper alt ordner seg med bilen din, men du får bare kose deg mest mlig mens du venter.

YES! YES! YES!
Sent i går ettermiddag fikk jeg omsider klarsignal til å hente ut Patrolen fra bilterminalen!

Var innom Tollagenten og hentet en TJUKK bunke papirer, og fikk ordet med betaling i cash Fikk ikke hente bilen før alt var betalt (begrepet tillit tror jeg foreløpig ikke finnes i USA..), og siden bankoverføring tar et par dager var det bare å kaste seg over nærmeste minibank. Fra Tollagenten bar det til flyplassen for å levere inn leiebilen (der jeg forøvrig presterte å legge igjen mobiltelefonen, så det ble ingen bilder fra Terminalen (kanskje like greit - Security hadde sikkert skutt etter meg om jeg prøvde..)). Det som tok mest tid var faktisk å komme seg inn på området. Forbannet frustrerende når jeg ble stoppet ved hovedinngangen, og faktisk kunne se Hoegh kontoret og Patrolen ca 100 meter lengre inne på terminalen. Var ikke snakk om at jeg kunne gå dit og hente den, nei. Her var det bare å bestille en taxi med de nødvendige sikkerhetsklareringene, som kunne kjøre ut på terminalen fra byen (30 minutter) og eksortere meg inn og ut. Tok selvfølgelig over en time før han kom (og taxien hadde to andre kunder når han omsider møtte opp), kostet 200 spenn (kr) for 100 meter, og så ble han til og med snurt når jeg ikke tipset! Kødd! Synes denne sikkerhets-paranoiaen begynner å ta litt av... Særlig når en bil med utenlandske skilter kan møte opp på grensen (så lenge man kommer over land, altså fra Mexico eller Canada), få et stempel i passet, og kjøre rett inn. En ukes papirarbeid og "agriculture-wash" føles ufattelig meningsløst!

Men! Det får være dagens utblåsning. I morgen lastes bilen med kaffe og cola, og så settes kursen nord-vest. Tenkte lenge å ta den sørlige ruten mot New Orleans, men vurderer nå å ta en noe mer nordlig rute via Atlanta, Nashville og Topeka. Har en følelse av at det kan være både enklere og raskere. Målet for denne etapen er Denver i Colorado (evt litt videre inn til skistedene: Vail, Breckenridge, Aspen, Beaver Creek, Snowmass, etc).Er litt usikker på hvor langt jeg kommer i morgen. Har ikke fått helt følelsen med avstander i miles ennå, og vet heller ikke hva slags veistandard, trafikkmengde og fartsgrenser jeg må forholde meg til. Ser ut som de beste veiene har en max 70 - min 50 mph grense. Og her KRYR av uniformerte politibiler på veiene!

Skal høre litt med folkene på hotellet her i morgen når jeg sjekker ut, om de har en formening om ruten. Tviler egentlig litt på det da det virker som de fleste jeg snakkker med får bakoversveis når jeg sier jeg skal kjøre til The Rockeys - for det er LAAANGT. Pfff!! 280 mil er jo ikke SÅ langt? Vi får se hva jeg sier om saken om noen dager...

Det føles i alle fall godt at bilen har kommet fram i den stand jeg forlot den i. Ikke så mye som er sjålet fra den heller, men noen har klart å lure ut en ryggsekk fra lasterommet, men den var heldigvis tom. Evt så burde den ha vært full for da hadde de nok ikke fått den ut gjennom glippen i bakdøra. Hadde låst sammen swing-out stativene på ARB fangeren, så bakdørene kunne åpnes noen cm (lasterommet var også låst av med gitter bak bakdørene). Det kjipe med ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) transport er at kjøretøyene ikke kan være låst (kjøreposisjonen) pga lasting/lossing/havnelogistikk. Så alt som ikke sitter fast, forsvinner. Enkelt og greit. La fra meg sugekoppen og strømledningen til GPS'en i midtkonsollen, da jeg tenkte at ingen ved sine fulle fem vil ta med seg dette uten selve GPS'en. Jeg tok feil... Så jeg må vel innom en bilsjappe her et sted og se om jeg finner litt rusk og rask.

Skal prøve å se om jeg finner internett på veien for opplasting av bilder og annet skryt.

Tilbake etter en liten offline økt, skal prøve å holde meg på nett... Ting har skjedd siden sist, og om noen har surfet innom http://www.unurban.no, så har man muligens lagt merke til at kartposisjonen min har justert seg noe fra Florida.

Etter at alt hadde ordnet seg i Jacksonville, og litt forsyninger var kjøpt inn, satte jeg kursen mot Colorado. Planen var som jeg sikkert har nevt 1000 ganger, å få med meg slutten av askisesongen i Rockies. Kjøreplanen var i utgangspunktet tenkt langs sjøen vestover, og deretter rett nord, men etter internettsøk og rådslagning med noen lokale helter, ble ruten lagt nordover mot Atlanta, derifra til Kansas City, og så rett vestoover mot Denver. Dro ca 700 kilometer første dag (startet litt sent...), 1400 kilometer dag to, og 1200 kilometer dag tre. Da stoppet overnattet jeg i Frisco noen kilometer fra Vail.

Men! Hvor lenge var Adam i paradis..? I det jeg passerer Denver og begynner på stigningen oppover fjellene mister jeg motorkraft... Sh##! Hvad nu?? Bilen vil ikke opp i omdreining når motoren har motstand. Null respons på kick-down, og turtallet pendler når jeg holder konstant (og da relativt lav) fart. Svinger av veien, og tar en pause. Alt virker normalt så lenge motoren ikke har belastning. Jeg tenker seff diesel og filter, og temperaturen har på vei oppover krøpet godt under null (ca 10 minus). Uansett ikke så kaldt at jeg ville forvente store problemene. Ellers funderte jeg på om det kunne være bøss fra den nye tanken (hadde jo dratt igjennom noen liter fuel fra Florida (og to ganger til Tyskland..)). Den tredje faktoren som gikk gjennom hodet var høyde, da jeg begynte å nærme meg 3400 moh. Eller alle? Eller et par av faktorene i kombinasjon med at ECU’en ikke hang helt med i svingene for blandingsforhold? Uansett var det på tide og køye, så jeg haltet meg litt videre til først en campingplass, og deretter en til, som ingen ville la meg komme inn fordi jeg “ikke var en RV”... Forb.. klyser! Var vel litt for nærme Breckenridge og Vail, ja.... Fant omsider et motel i Frisco til en ok pris, og utsatte alle problemer til dagen etter.

Så! Etter litt filosofering bestemte jeg meg for å ta en liten runde for å sjekke om det gikk an å finne overnatting for noen dager skikjøring før jeg brettet opp ermene for å finne ut hva som var galt med doningen... Ved oppstart dagen etter røyk det svart, deretter hvitt, og dett var dett. Men symptomene var de samme. Ved lav belastning fungerte alt som normalt, så jeg var ikke så nervøs for å fortsette i bedagelig tempo. Stoppet deg seg helt skulle det vel bli råd. Men! Etter litt research viser det seg at camping på disse skistedene er det bare å glemme. De åpner ikke før til sommeren. Annen overnatting begynner på ca 130 USD pr natt, så med utgangspunkt i at humøret ikke var helt på topp etter gårsdagens hendelser, ble det raskt besluttet å kjøre ned av fjellet retning vestover. Satte kurs mot Grand Junction og Moab i Utah.

Etterhvert som jeg kom lenger og lenger ned, og temperaturen steg og steg, steg også humøret betraktelig! Det viser seg at symptomene blir mindre og mindre. Nede i Grand Junction fungerer El Patrolo nesten normalt. Litt dårlig respons på kick-down er det eneste jeg kan merke. Vurderer å snu for å finne ut hva i helv.. det er som foregår, men tar heldigvis til vett og forsetter til Moab morgenen etter. Og for et sted!!! Off-road Paradis!!! Dette sted er helt vilt, og her cruiser de råeste doningene rundt i gatene. Og i motseting til mange steder/sentrum i USA jeg har kjørt igjennom til nå, har faktisk Moab atmosfære! Jeg begynner å tro at for mountain bikers og off-roadere, må dette nesten universets senter.

Har nå vært her i et par dager. Har hold til på en campingplass midt i sentrum, og har ordnet litt på campingfasilitetene i bilen, samt fikset meg reservehjul. I dag var jeg ute og kjørte “Chickens Corner” (level 3/Moderat). Tar det veeeeldig pent ettersom jeg har fullt lass i bilen, og helst ikke vil ødelegge hverken last eller kjøredoning (særlig ikke kjøredoning siden evt reservedeler stort sett må bestilles fra Australia...). Dessuten har jeg ikke funnet tak i vinsj ennå, og siden jeg er på tur stort sett bare med meg selv. Heldigvis er det relativt traffikert ute i trailene om noe skulle skje.

Koser meg stort, og regner med at jeg henger rundt her noen dager til. I morgen flytter jeg camp til litt nord for byen, og tenker å prøve meg på en rute som heter “3D-Trail”. Har også lyst til å få med meg White Rim Trail, som er en av de mer kjente turene, men så langt ser det ut som at alle campene langs ruta er fullbooket for flere uker. Skal forhøre meg litt om det går an å ta turen på en dag (tror det..), men så var det dette med å ta det sakte og forsiktig, og ikke ødelegge noe... Vi får se!
